The Queen of Goddess, Isis is the oldest and the important goddess of the Egyptian gods. Isis known as Aset by Greeks and she is also the Goddess of motherhood and fertility. Literally, her name Isis means “she of the throne”.
She is the daughter of Geb, the God of Earth and Nut the Goddess of Sky. She is the sister of Set and Nephthys, the sister and wife of Osiris and the mother of Horus.
Isis was revered as a great healer and magician. According to the myth, when her husband Osiris was murdered by his brother Set, she searched for his body and buried him properly. After that with the help Thoth, the God of Wisdom and her magical skills, she brought the husband back to life again Isis resurrected him with the “Ritual of Life”. She is also protector her son Horus from his enemy Set.
Isis was worshipped for motherhood, love, magic, children, marital devotion, fertility, wealthy, medicine, protection and peace. Her cult centre at Philae was built as an honour and her worship has even lasted into the present day. Isis was worshipped all over Egypt and spread well beyond the borders of Egypt, in the Roman Empire. Her cult of the divine mother was eventually evolved by the cult of Virgin Mary.
Her appearance portrayed as a woman with headdress in the shape of a throne and wearing a long sheath dress. She is also often shown as woman sitting and holding baby (Horus) on her lap. Sometimes she has a sun disk in the middle with two horns on her heard, like Hathor. Isis has the attributes as the great mother goddesses that revered by the Egyptian people.
