  1. Art Nouveau came first. It was very ‘organic’ with curved lines, flowers and vines and leaves, stuff like that. Art Deco came later and was more stark and simple, with geometric shapes and patterns, a sort of elegant simplicity. Deco often stresses symmetry while Nouveau is more naturalistic and asymmetric.

  2. Art Nouveau is a style from 1880-1916 with floral and curvy lines.Beardsley is an example.
    Art Deco came later (1920-1939) and is geometric, and more “modern” looking, severe, etc. Lots of architecture, like the Chrysler building, and the Golden Gate Bridge are examples.
