Is the use of essential dignities and rulership falling out of favor with modern astrology?

It seems that the old definitions of rulership as one of the 5 essential dignities is no longer popular among astrologers. The definition of rulership seems to have morphed into more of a situation where the ruling planet has an “affinity” to the sign, not the hardcore version of rulership of traditional astrology.

Have you noticed this and has it made much of an impact on how you “see” a sign?

  1. Yes, what one person calls a planet exalted in a sign, another person calls dignified, so much so that now I am confused which is which; but that detail really doesn’t change anything for me in how I interpret a planet in a particular sign. Rulership, exalted, dignified = “affinity” – it’s all good. How planets are aspected really seals the deal, though.

  2. Id love to understand Asttrology. I do respect it and I wonder if you could bring to light some points:
is there the rulling pplanet really relevant? if so, is the rulling planet stronger than the sign itself at any point/situation we face?
