wicca and Christianity?

Question by Lynn: wicca and Christianity?
I previously posted a question about wanting to do Reiki. I am actually feeling very led to learn this art and administer it.

I, however, am a Christian through and through. I did receive some good feedback on my last post about whether Christians find Reiki to be okay, (amongst beliefs)…but now I’ve stumbled across a bit more I’d like opinions on.

I can’t help but notice when I research this online….Reiki, or any healing art for that matter….it tends to connect with a “wicca” site. Often I’ll do a search engine on Reiki, and I’ll get wicca, paganism, etc.

Can anyone share why these intertwine as they do?

Thanks in advance for your MATURE answers! 🙂

Because Wicca and other pagan religions tend to have more support for what is often referred to as “non-traditional” or “alternative” medicine.

By and large, practitioners of Reiki, acupuncture and acupressure, herbal and homeopathic remedies, and other non-traditional forms of medicine, are more likely to follow Wicca, Shinto, Buddhism, or other non-Abrahamic path than to be Christian.

Hence the links you’re curious about–to connect them with the people who are most likely to be interested.

From observation, Wiccans tend to like nontraditional healing methods.

Reiki would make intuitive sense to a Wiccan, as it appears to be the channeling of energy for healing. Their religion works closely with the channeling of energy.

Mainly because Reiki is considered something ‘new age’, and many people associate ‘new age’ with wiccans and witchcraft. Though many wiccans and witches do use reiki as a method of healing, it is not exclusive to those religions.

So… Since new age and alternative methods of healing are often used by wiccan and traditional healers, they end up being lumped together with an alternative religion, and perhaps even be labled “witchcraft”.

So yeah, one may be associated with the other, but they are not exclusive.

Answer: Because many Wiccans and other Pagans also incorporate Reiki into theirs lives as healers. However, AS I UNDERSTAND IT there is no conflict between Reiki and Christianity as the ability to heal using “laying on of hands” is mentioned as one of the gifts given by the Holy Spirit.

When I was going to school for massage therapy, we had devout Christians in the class along with me, the only openly Pagan student. If you feel this is part of what the Holy Spirit is calling you to do, then follow that call.
