Medicinal Herbs: Grow Your Own Medicine! Noreen’s Kitchen

Medicinal Herbs: Grow Your Own Medicine! Noreen’s Kitchen

Greetings! Here I show you some of the medicinal herbs that I plan on putting into the garden this year. I have two boxes in the garden that are in a far corner and in rather shady spots. They don’t serve me well for some veggies so I thought I would go ahead and plant some herbs. The herbs that I have chosen are mostly for medicinal purposes. I plan to make tinctures, teas and use them dried. I will go into them more in another video. *****DISCLAIMER****** Never consume any herb unless you have researched it and know exactly what the implications are. Never use medicinal herbs or plants until you educate yourself on their uses and medicinal properties. The same is true for local wild edibles. Never eat any wild plant unless you have educated yourself or consulted a local expert. I hope you are encouraged to get yourself some medicinal herbs and bone up on your plant knowledge! I get all of my herb seeds from Baker Creek Seeds. They can be found at: I use Herbs 2000 as one of my sources for herb info. They can be found here Happy planting!

the website frugally sustainable has a lot of good recipes for medicinal herbs.

Love your selections. Recently on UndergroundWellness, he interviewed w/ Dr. Terry Wahls that has reversed her MS with a paleo diet. Short segment is on yt but I listened to the whole thing on his website. She’s also looking for people with MS to do a funded study on this diet because others in the medical field are astonished by her recovery. She should be in a wheelchair but she’s not. 🙂

Now I’m thinking of expanding my garden to make more room for the medicinals. 🙂

Just ordered my book on Herbs for your Backyard Garden and how to use & prepare them. I’m so happy you keep me up to date on these things and are giving things to work on during my prepping. Please continue your awesome work!!!

I have been thinking about this for my garden as well. Thanks for sharing.

    thanks Noreen for sharing 🙂
the funny thing is that all of those plants, except for the last 3, grow in my backyard since I can remember and I never knew that they are so useful 😀

Did you get the pm about morning glory? They are very medicinal, don’t pull them all out!

  8. iliketomoveificationMay 28, 2012

    how to grow weed?

  9. MrsNewAmericaNowMay 28, 2012

I agree! The state and fed drug programs rake in serious money too. Did you see Pastor Dowells video in TN, the cop said he didn’t care about the drugs – he wanted the money? That “special division” is funded on the money they confiscate. It seems once the police started calling themselves law enforcement, they forgot about the constitution and bill of rights!

I’ve read many places that trying to grow stevia from seeds is counter intuitive. It is far better to find a start…even found them at walmart once. also, pls ck into comfrey…called bone knit by the native americans and is also edible to both humans and all livestock, AND, it grows fast and is one of the BEST compost products you can have. in temperate zones you can harvest 3-5 times/yr. I used it on my son’s leg after serious accident, ..believe it saved his leg. attaching a vid on it.

  13. MrsNewAmericaNowMay 28, 2012

I bought mine a few years ago and they are doing great. It loves hair cuts or it gets to crazy. I think I paid 10 dollars for three good size seedlings. Grows fast.

  14. MsNobody62May 28, 2012

you should plant some Lavender bushes too, really good.

  15. amarien82May 28, 2012

Thanks! I might try ebay. I have been to a few places around here and havent seen any.

  16. MrsNewAmericaNowMay 28, 2012

Same here, I was thinking I used to much. I read it’s 8times stronger than regular sugar so you have to use a lot less. I put it in the hubby’s coffee and he hated it but it has many medicinal properties too.

I agree with mrsnewamericanow….my stevia did not germinate…grrrr…However my chamomile and lemon balm and catnip are growing like weeds!!

  18. MrsNewAmericaNowMay 28, 2012

I bought my seedlings off ebay and local nurseries are starting to sell stevia. I found like made a nice glue substance if you mix the white extract with a little water.

  19. amarien82May 28, 2012

Im finding that out lol. I have seen several people be successfull with the papertowel method so I had the seed thought I would try it and I got nothing, going to shop around and see if I can find any seedlings. 🙂

  20. SimplyIncredulousMay 28, 2012

Love this video! I have to tell you that I was greatly disappointed in Stevia, which has an unpleasant aftertaste to me.

  21. MrsNewAmericaNowMay 28, 2012

Stevia is best started with seedlings! Extremely hard to germinate the seeds.

  22. amarien82May 28, 2012

I have most of those growing in containers plus a lot more. I decided on the containers because I dont know what would be to invasive in my garden. I have the Stevia as well but cant get them to germinate 🙁 I am going to have to find some starts somewhere, I really want to grow it! I have been doing a lot of research on medicinal herbs as well, I mean what better way than the natural way right?

  23. MrsNewAmericaNowMay 28, 2012

Happens to us all ; ). Sending you a pm.

  24. atticus9799May 28, 2012

Thanks for the good info. I knew I ordered them all for a reason, but when I was actually on the camera, my mind went dumb. : )

  25. atticus9799May 28, 2012

You are right. The south is not quite as progressive as our western states yet. They don’t even consider medical marijuana down here. I lived in Az for 30 years. We actually passed a medical marijuana bill in the early 90’s. The feds came out and over turned it telling the state supreme court that it was a federal violation. Just another way to control the masses. I believe if they made it legal they would actually be able to control it better and tax it! Stupid is as stupid does.
