euronews right on - Imitations of illicit drugs

www.euronews.com They are known by different names in different countries: psychoactive substances, legal highs, herbal highs, stimulants or ethno-botanicals. They are part of a new drugs phenomenon that is on the rise in Europe – legal substances that imitate the effects of illicit drugs. But they are also the focus of growing debate. These new drugs are now appearing on the market at the rate of more than one a week. Some countries are clamping down over health concerns; others have a softer approach. Portugal is just one country where it is straightforward and legal to buy such products, which are mostly synthetic. In Lisbon we spoke to a man who has been a user of both outlawed and legal highs. He explained what the attraction was to these new substances. “They’re easier to get hold of,” said the man, who wanted to remain anonymous. “We can easily go to a store and buy them. They’re new, and so it’s an opportunity to try something new. The police can’t really say anything, they can’t arrest us, they can’t do anything. So we feel safer somehow using these drugs, which are also more accessible.” He added: “I don’t know to what degree they can be dangerous, if they’re as dangerous as heroine, or if it’s more like cannabis, which doesn’t have a wider impact on you.” Users also buy online, with hundreds of websites flourishing despite the efforts of some governments to close them down. In some countries the new legal drugs are also sold in what are known as smart shops. We

    by Lel4nd

    Article by Alex Cipriani

The Law of Success eBook is finally available for download. I’ve read all 1100+ pages, and what follows is a summary of its crucial points.

The sixteen lessons to success written by Napoleon Hill provided 16 points golden rule or point of action to becoming successful in any field of human activity. The lesson started with lesson one titled the master mind. It talked of the type of mind an aspiring successful person should be imbued with.

There certain qualities which successful people have and which made them to be successful. It was the contention of Napoleon Hill that such minds if acquired and put into use by every individual the possibility of such a person making it in life will be there. People of similar minds can come together and shelve their differences and focus their minds together to forge a common objective.

Common objective formulated by similar minds would lead to the second lesson which Napoleon Hill called the definite chief aim. The chief am is the driven idea that motivates every other actor to the realization of the chief aim. The third lesson had to do with self confidence. Napoleon Hill maintains nothing positive can happen without the actor having the implicit confidence in himself. Self confidence is the foundation which other things can effectively rest on. The person with self confidence can convince others of his actions and inaction it can make other people believes in him because he has demonstrated his capabilities and abilities through the radiant confidence he is exhibiting.

The other important lesson discussed in “The Law of Success” is the habit of saving. It is the common belief in elementary economics that one can succeeds in businesses if the propensity to save is greater than the propensity to spend. Without saving one can hardly make it in the business world. In the same manner he outlined the next important lesson which has to do with initiative, leadership and imagination. These are critical factors which when followed by any individual is sure steps to success.

Napoleon Hill so much believed in his sixteen lessons for success because he has studied the lives and leadership styles of successful people; and his study conformed to those ingredients which he had elaborated on his sixteen laws of success.

It is the view of many influential leaders in different sectors of lives who commented on the laws of success Napoleon Hill has provided the blueprint and the road map to success and what is required is for individuals to make adjustments in their lives and stick to the laws as proposed by Napoleon Hill. The laws of success as good and as comprehensive as it may be may not be worthwhile if is only confined at the libraries in America and Europe. The book can only create the required impact if the wider segments of the population have access to it. In this era when the cost of book production can be quite expensive because of the economic melt down which has negatively affected most economies.

The production of the Law of Success PDF is a welcomed development. It has comprehensively addressed the question of availability. What it means is that majority of people can have access to the book because many people can have access to the Internet.

  • John Donne and poetry

    by tyfn

    Article by Richard Bennet

John Donne (1572-1631) established what is known as the Metaphysical style of poetry which was taken up by later on poets such as George Herbert (1593-1633) and Henry Vaughan (1622-95). A few of the chief attributes of Donne’s design are: the abrupt opening of the poem having a shocking dramatic line; the usage of colloquial diction; the concepts inside the poem currently being introduced like a logical and persuasive argument, the purpose of that’s to support his wooing, no matter whether of a woman or God. Donne took metaphors from all spheres of lifestyle, specially from crafts and also the sciences, and created frequent utilization of the ‘conceit’: a shocking, ingenious, turn of suggestions. Usually an entire poem is surely an prolonged ‘conceit’, and often a poem ends using a final ‘conceit’ within the previous two lines. Donne formulated his method writing love poetry, and later adapted it to the composing of religious poetry.

George Herbert followed the lead offered by Donne, but he also manufactured contributions which were really unique. Herbert’s distinguishing attribute is his simplicity of diction and metaphor. He retains the colloquial manner, and, to an extent, the logical persuasive presentation of ideas, but he draws his metaphors from daily domestic experience, using an array of straightforward commonplace imagery in contrast towards the sophisticated imagery of Donne. ‘Conceits’ are not an important component of Herbert’s poetry, and his appeal is not so intellectual as Donne’s.

A technique Herbert introduced was the ending of the poem with two quiet lines which resolve the argument within the poem without answering the distinct points raised by it. On this way Herbert conveys the insight that one particular can’t argue or explanation with God; one possibly feels God’s presence, or loses the feeling. In these respects Herbert can be deemed to have broken new ground, into which Henry Vaughan followed later.

In contrast to Donne, Herbert wrote no adore poetry, possessing made the decision, when he commenced producing poetry at Cambridge, to dedicate his poetic performs to God. Herbert’s poetry is about struggles of a religious type, however the struggles are neither so desperate nor so private as Donne’s. Herbert writes for other folks, recording his struggles in order that others may possibly stick to his example. The assumed in Herbert’s poems might be witnessed being a continuation with the assumed in his sermons, and it really is this goal behind his poetry which mostly determines his style. Within the opening stanza of ‘The Church Porch’ he writes,

‘A verse could finde him, who a sermon flies, And turn delight into a sacrifice.’

Donne’s Holy Sonnet ‘Batter my Heart’ and Herbert’s ‘The Collar’ are each poems regarding the struggle to sustain faith in God.

Donne’s pondering is far more intellectual, while Herbert’s arguments relate more to emotions, the sorts of feeling with which we are able to all discover. Consequently, we discover a big difference in type. Herbert’s lines are easier and shorter, and we realize them easily, whereas understanding Donne will take hard work and concentration.

Compared to Donne Herbert puts significantly less emphasis on conceits, exotic imagery, and ingenious assumed, and looks to an additional resource for stylistic inspiration – the Bible, or, much more especially, the language of Christ and also the Parables. Wherever Donne goes out of his strategy to locate an exotic or striking picture, Herbert seems to be for your homeliest commonplace image he can discover. In ‘The Collar’ as an example we now have a thorn, wine, fruit, and cable. We could see the purpose for this preference in Herbert’s personal observations on Christ’s utilization of common imagery.
