  • How do you feel about ppl who have no knowledge of other belief but are convinced that their belief is right?

Question by greenbonbon: How do you feel about ppl who have no knowledge of other belief but are convinced that their belief is right?
So convinced it’s impossible to think they’re not trying to convert you even in a casual conversation (they get really spirited).
A friend of mine told me that she picked her religion after a long spiritual journey, thus she’s convinced she picked the ultimate religion.
She said she even almost embrace Buddhism, and she goes on talking about a some Chinese philosopher. Okay…I guess she was talking about the Mainland Buddhism…but then I casually tell her that I’ve never heard of that philosopher, maybe I know him in some other name.
“Yeah, maybe” she said, “He’s the major guy in Buddhism.”
“You mean like the Buddha himself?” I asked.
    “Yeah, yes, probably!”
    “But the guy is Chinese.”
She gave me a blank look.
I blinked my eyes. “The Buddha is Indian.”

At another time I was watching an Evolution program on TV and out of of nowhere she came up and said in a matter-of-fact tone, “He renounced all his theories when he died…Yes he did, what’s his name again…Thomas Edison?”
I don’t know what the extent of her knowledge in other religions and beliefs…but how could she be so convinced of her belief then?
How many people in the world do you think are like this? Is it good, bad, or spiritually irrelevant?
Oops…by no means i meant anybody was a blithering idiot, SDW…This girl got a phd and working on another…so she’s quite smart…
I brought up the Thomas Edison for her ignorance in atheist belief…(atheism is a belief too, in a sense).

  • Have you ever seen the “Law of Karma” happening in your life in about last 12 to 14 years past life span ?

Question by jayakrishnamenon: Have you ever seen the “Law of Karma” happening in your life in about last 12 to 14 years past life span ?
Have you observed a notable slight mistake committed by you in an early age hitting you back in a magnified way in later years ?

I have seen it happening in my life, a slight manual judgemental error done with a split of second difference denying one eligible contestant his natuaral due credit later affecting back me in a magnified manner in a span of about 11 to 12 years time with another manual judgemental error with a split of second factor.

Can the Law of Karma be manipulated with extra Vigilence and Watchfulness like if you committ a small mistake, do some extra good things in the lead time between so called bad Karma and its undesireable Result for an extra colourful presentation in between ?

Can we say the Law of Karma a natural happening and Divine Grace an assuaging factor ?

Why do some people strictly want to adhere to the the “Law of Karma” and manipulate the actions in this world on their own without depending or adhering on to the “Divine Grace” calling compassion and “Kaarunya” a waste or “Chavar” that they don’t need free of cost.

Has this philosophy got anything to do with Vedas ?

Is this an aspect of “Prajnanam Brahma” Mahavakya of Rigveda or “Aham Brahmasmi” Mahavakya of Yajur Veda ?

Is this the Power Concept in Vedas ?

Has this got any resemblence to a kind of Jewish Concept that assess everything as per the Powerful Money Value ?

  • Was religion originally intended to be about egos?

Question by Gorgeoustx Go Spurs Go!!: Was religion originally intended to be about egos?
    Except Buddhism.

“Buddhists try to overcome ego, yet most other religions are the opposite in that they say “we are the best, and the only true religion that is really right…really…so believe us or else”. Ego is the problem because it is basic to most religions.” – Mikenanda

I think it depends on the particular gods being worshiped. It is certain that Jehovah’s egoism has spread to his followers. But there are certainly many other faiths and philosophies that do not share this perspective.

  • Does anyone know anything about brainwave patterns during meditation ?

Question by spidstick: Does anyone know anything about brainwave patterns during meditation ?

Meditators have been studied using EEG equipment. The simple act of closing the eyes and clearing the mind produces an immediate decrease in brainwave activity. In the initial stages, brainwave activity remains around 13 to 14 Hz. With practice, deeper meditative states can be achieved. Experienced Meditators can achieve brainwave patterns closer to 8 Hz. Those that have practiced meditation for many years can achieve even deeper brainwave states. Meditation is a discipline that must be understood in order to be effective. There is much controversy in the West over the desired ‘result’ of meditation. From a technical perspective, no specific result of meditation is desired. In the meditative state, all experience is recognized, acknowledged and the attention is once again returned to the initially chosen focus of attention. Once an experience — any experience other than the initially chosen focus of attention becomes the focus and the experience, the individual is no longer in a state of meditation. A state of transpersonal awareness may take place at that time.

  • Q&A: Please help with issue about identification card?

Question by Fluorine: Please help with issue about identification card?
Ok, so I have Buddhism as my religion (My parents make me to be Buddhism) but I’m an atheist and I’m trying to clear my doubt by whether can I ask for change for the religion from “Buddhism” to “Atheist”? How much will it cost on average? Thank you 😉

If this is on a passport, it would be easiest and cheapest to simply wait until you renew it to make the change. Changing it before then would entail the cost of making the card/passport.
